Obituary for John W. Gratton

John W. Gratton, formerly of Freedom, NY died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Machias at the age of 85.

He was born January 23, 1933 in Tonawanda, NY a son of the late James and Edna Gratton. He was a United States Korean War Veteran and served from 1951-1955. He was also a life member of the Arcade VFW. He was a former councilman of the Town of Freedom and Freedom Town Board.

He owned and operated Gratton's Gulf gas station which later became Gratton's Quaker State in Sandusky, NY.

His wife, Jean (nee Charles) Gratton whom he married December 29, 1956 in Farmersville, passed away February 19, 2003.

He is survived by his children: Bruce (Kathie) Gratton of Holland, Cindy (Rick) Cordier of Sarasota, FL, Lynn (Goldie) Gratton of Lakeview and Scott Gratton of Franklinville; his brother: Steven Gratton of Grand Island; his sister-in-law: Vi Gratton of Sierra Vista, AZ; also survived by six grandchildren, a step- great-grandson as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his siblings: Jean (Al) Rathbun, James Gratton and Joan (Don) McClurg.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 2 PM at the Freedom Cemetery.
