Obituary for Rev. Dr. Robert W. Zimmerman Jr.

Rev. Dr. Robert Wallace Zimmerman, Jr., of Allen Rd., East Concord, formerly of West Seneca, died Thursday September 27, 2018 at Hospice Buffalo, Inc., Cheektowaga, at the age of 74.

He was born April 25, 1944 in Buffalo, New York a son of the late Robert W. Sr. and Ruth (nee Wuest) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Maryvale High School - Class of 1962. He worked over 30 years at the Woodlawn Stamping Plant, Ford Motor Company. He received a B.A. degree from Empire State College SUNY, attended United Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 2000 and the Ashland Theological Seminary where he received a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2014.

He served 20 years as an Ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and served as Pastor at Bethany United Methodist Church, Tonawanda, Colden United Methodist Church and Holland United Methodist Church from where he retired in 2013. He then served as the Visitation Pastor for Hope Lutheran Church in Arcade, a position he held until his death.

He was a Cub Master and WEBLOS leader for Boy Scout Troop #517 in West Seneca; was a Ham radio operator (call sign - WA2KTW); enjoyed toy collecting - having written numerous research articles on the subject; also enjoyed history - especially the WPA (Works Progress Administration) and the Civil War; wood carving; was a member of the Buffalo Banjo Band and was the owner of a Morris Minor.

He is survived by his wife - Ruth (nee Kramer) Zimmerman whom he married May 1, 1965 at Cornell University; two sons - Robert W. Zimmerman, III of Atlanta, GA and Richard H. (Bree-Anna) Zimmerman of Kenmore; three grandchildren - Autumn, Elsa and Violet; a sister - Diane (Frederick, Jr.) Michael of West Seneca and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday October 2, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Hope Lutheran Church, 2 E. Main St., Arcade, where funeral services will be held Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 11 am with the Rev. Shawn Hannon officiating. Interment will be in Holland Cemetery.
