Obituary for Mark A. Bandurchin

Mark A. Bandurchin, 63, passed on Weds., Jan 17, having lost a dignified and brave fight against cancer. He was predeceased by his father George and mother Dorothy. Mark has left behind his wife Val, who fell in love with him at first sight – he was her rock and personal google. Mark was a role model for children Matthew and Lauren, who learned from him the importance of loyalty, kindness, morality and an appreciation for good music. Mark was comforted knowing his children have partners, Audrey and Derron to spend their lives with, confident they would be loved and cared for. Mark is also survived by his sister Joan, cousin Lisa McKay (Wayne) as well as many close friends who have been a source of joy, love and support. The family’s dogs, Jack, Eddie and Leo made him smile and gave Mark unconditional love. Mark was a lifelong Yankee, “stupid” Giants fan and avid follower of the PGA.

After graduating from Binghamton High School and then Kent State University with a degree in journalism, Mark joined Fred Riger Advertising Agency, Inc. in 1979 as a copywriter and ended his career as a managing partner. In a business often characterized as flashy, Mark was instead strong and steady, thoughtful, and truly creative. He espoused the philosophy of “making friends along the way” as the key to public relations and to life. His skill and even-handedness on and off the golf course made him an easy choice for captain of many captain-and-crew tournaments. Mark’s love of golf started at his grandmother’s miniature golf course on Front Street in Binghamton, which led to him playing at Ely Park golf course as a young boy. For almost 40 years, including this fall he played there in the Friday night Twilight League.

Memorials may be made to Mercy House, 220 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, where Mark and family received amazing, compassionate care. Arrangements were handled by W.S. Davis Funeral Home.

At Mark’s request there will be no funeral. We invite anyone who has a memory to share of Mark to join us at PS Restaurant, 100 Rano Blvd, Vestal, NY 13850 on Saturday January 26 from 3:00 – 5:00.
