Eugene M. Gertis of Arcade, NY died Sunday, June 9, 2019 at his residence at the age of 86.
He was born June 16, 1932 in Buffalo, NY a son of the late Carl and Frances (nee Jeffery) Gertis, Sr. He was a United States Navy Korean War Veteran and served from 1952-1956. He served on the USS Thuban AKA-19. He was a member of the Arcade Masonic Lodge, the Sardinia American Legion and enjoyed carving, horses and his family.
He was the co-owner of Jenny Lee Dairy in Arcade for 40 years with his brother, Carl. Afterwards he owned and operated the Seven Gables Antique Shop in Arcade with his wife, Margaret. He had also worked for R.G. Mason Auctions in Fillmore, NY for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife - Margaret (nee Schiener) Gertis who he married June 5, 1954 in Sardinia; his children: William Gertis of Florida, Tim (Edie) Gertis of South Carolina and Amy (Jim) Burns of Freedom; his grandchildren: Heather Gertis of North Carolina, Lindsey (Cameron) Jackman of South Carolina, Evan Gertis of Augusta, GA, Amanda Martinez of Chico, CA and Tyler Burns of Springville; his great-grandchildren: Caleb Jackman, Andreas and Malakhai Martinez; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother - Carl (Ruth) Gertis, Jr.
There is no prior visitation. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 11 AM at the Sardinia Cemetery. Pastor Dave Kubiak will officiate.
