Obituary

George W. Pangel of Deland, Fla., formerly of Holland, NY, passed away to his eternal home in Heaven on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on March, 27, 1936 in Chaffee, NY to the late James Pangel and Julia Mary Weirs. He was raised by his mother and his beloved late step father, Lester “Pa” Weirs. George was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Deland, Fla. where he passionately served by spreading the Good News of Jesus through a nursing home visitation ministry and an evangelism outreach at local flea markets. He was also a leader in AWANA programs to teach children about Jesus.

He started and built a highly regarded roofing company, Helmich and Pangel. He then continued his roofing career as a manager for A. W. Farrell and Sons. His family was always his top priority and he also enjoyed studying the Bible, fishing, traveling, and cheering his children and grandchildren on in life. He was known as “Generous George” for a reason... and not just for his willing monetary help, but for his wise counsel and listening ear. He knew no strangers, only potential friends.

His wife of 63 years, Joyce Marie (Edington) Pangel entered Heaven on December 15, 2018. He cared for her, in her declining years, with such compassion, diligence, and unconditional love ... a role model of Christ’s love for us... theirs was a love story for the ages. In turn, we are so thankful for George’s son, Bill, and his son, Billy who likewise lovingly cared for George, above and beyond, and were with him when he took his last breath. We are so very grateful.

George is survived his children: Karen (Douglas) Smith of Indianapolis, In.; William Pangel of Deland, Fla.; Scot (Patricia) Pangel of Holland, NY; and Steven (Lisa) Pangel of Shohola, Pa. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren (the first bearing the name Georgeanna in his honor); 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews... all will remember George Pangel - Man of God and Servant of Christ.

Friends may call Wed., Feb. 12,2020 from 4-6 pm at W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade, NY where a Celebration of Life will be held after the visitation hours. Internment will be held in the Holland Cemetery, Thursday, February 13th at 11:30 am.

Uncle George was a gentle giant in our family but more than that he was a giant in his faith in Jesus Christ. What a Godly example of how a believer is to live in a post Modern Christian Culture. Thank you Uncle George for setting the bar high for our family of how we are to live for Christ and praise him everyday for who he is. Our Savior, which now is reality as he sees his King face to face in Heaven. Thoughts and prayers for all of us as family and friends that are left behind. May we all follow in Uncle George’s foot steps that will lead us right into life eternal when our time on earth is done. Blessings on you all as this will be the year of firsts as we mourn the loss of this great man! We look forward to our reunion one day in Heaven!

To George’s Family:

I remember George (and Joyce) well through the ministry of Odosagih Bible Conference through the years. George was a kind generous & faithful servant of the Lord. Both He & Joyce were summer campers in the RV park for many years. May the Lord minister comfort to his family in the days ahead.
