Larry Buckley passed peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2020 in Warsaw, NY at the Wyoming County Community Hospital, Skilled Nursing Facility. He leaves behind his adoring wife Donna (Ketchum) Buckley of Castile, NY. Larry was born and raised in a small town in Wyoming County, Pike, NY. Larry attended school in Pike where he used to say, “he walked to school with cardboard soles in his shoes and went up hill both ways during snowstorms.” He eventually transferred to Letchworth Central School where he graduated. He was the quarterback of his football team and his love for football stayed with him his entire life – he was a Penn State fan for years. Larry and his wife Donna were members of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Gainesville, NY.

For the majority of Larry’s career, he worked with farmers in both western and central New York. He worked for his brother John, out of Pavilion NY at JD Buckley and Sons Inc. and managed a fertilizer business in Gainesville, NY. He later worked as a private contractor seed salesman to area farmers, recently retiring just a few years ago. Larry was the president of the Fillmore Central School Board for many years. He also volunteered with the Wiscoy-Rossburg Fire Company, sharing some of his outstanding moments as a fireman from the flood of the Genesee River in 1972.

Larry was previously married to Karen (Weideman) Buckley prior to her sudden death in September 2015 and had three children with his first wife, the late Bonnelyn Lou (Mowers) Buckley. He was very proud of his children, Mark Duane (Staci) Buckley of Cuba, NY, Kerry Ellen (Rob) Buckley-Poplawski of Rochester, NY and Kelly Ann (Kenneth) Buckley-Sterner of West Valley, NY and his grandchildren, Corrie Buckley of Arcade NY, Cassie Buckley of Big Skye, Montana, Kelsey and Tanner Poplawski of Rochester, NY and Karlie Beil of Raleigh, North Carolina. He also had six great grandchildren: Maddox, Wesley, Jhett, Remi, Alliyah and Jayden. Larry is survived by his sisters Janice (Jesse) Roberts of Centerville, NY and Wanita (late Chuck) Krauss of Castile NY and several nieces and nephews.

Larry was the son of Duane and Mildred (Flint) Buckley who predeceased him years ago. He was also predeceased by his brothers John (survived by Hon) Buckley of Pavilion, NY, Alvin (Louise) Buckley, Donald (Patricia) Buckley and sisters Betty (Robert) Lacey, Wanda (survived by Dan) Andrews of Gainesville, NY, and his twin sister - Mary (Dorrance) Zeller.

A private graveside service in Elmwood Cemetery, Pike will be held for the family. Donations may be made to the Wyoming County Community Health Care System, in Warsaw, New York or The University of Buffalo, Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease in Western New York. Larry’s children and his wife Donna would like to extend their gratitude to all the health care staff and the administration of the Wyoming County Community Hospital for the care of their father and husband as they offered continued updates while the family could not be with him during this pandemic.
