Obituary

Donald M. Vacinek of Sardinia, NY passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Cheektowaga at the age of 78.

He was born December 29, 1941 in Springville, NY a son of the late Martin and Ruth (Abraham) Vacinek.

Donald was the owner of M & D Farms in Sardinia which he farmed for many years. The dairy farm is a third generation farm going on 65 years in the same family. Donald’s father, Martin bought the farm in 1955. Donald took over in 1982 and it is currently run by his son, Russel. Along with the farm, Donald would cut and split firewood which he would sell and deliver into the South towns. He also enjoyed making maple syrup, and had a sugar shanty. Even after retiring from the farm he always helped out by driving the tractor in the fields to help with crops, sawed lumber for the saw mill, and ran errands to still help out around the farm.

Donald was an avid fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed going to Canada to fish on Lake Nipissing, Georgian Bay, and the French River. He had many fishing buddies. Summers were spent at Silver Lake in Silver Springs camping and enjoying his friends that he had made at the campground. Donald had a gift of “gab” and made friends easily. He enjoyed talking with people and had a numerous circle of friends.

In his time spent alone he was always working on Sudoku puzzles.

Donald enjoyed all his grandchildren, but had a special bond with his grandson Jud, who shares his passion for fishing.

He is survived by his wife - Edith (Miller) Vacinek whom he married May 12, 1962 in Yorkshire; his children: Beverly (Dominic) Gambino of Sardinia, Russel (Darliene) Vacinek of Sardinia, Jennifer (Chad) Ellis of Freedom; his grandchildren: Lauren, Alexandria, Jade and Jud; his brother - Anton Vacinek of Palmetto, GA; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother - James Vacinek.
