Arthur L. Gilbert of Arcade died Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Machias at the age of 92.
He was born October 9, 1927 in Sardinia, New York a son of the late Frank and Mildred (Davis) Gilbert. He was a member of the Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational and was a United States Army World War II Veteran. He was also a member of the Arcade Fire Department and the Arcade VFW for over 50 years.
He was a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna for 32 years. After working at Bethlehem Steel, he drove school bus for Robert's Bus Service and then Laidlaw for the Pioneer School District.
He is survived by his wife, Grace (Wulff) Gilbert whom he married on June 10, 1950 in Arcade; his children: Stephen (Linda) Gilbert of Bartlett, TN, Charlene (Bob) Landahl of Canandaigua; his siblings: Richard (Sharon) Gilbert of Johnsonburg, Norman (Pat) Gilbert of Yorkshire, Shirley (Richard) Hunt of Delevan, Alberta Close of Machias, Marjorie Hoffman of Yorkshire, Elaine (James) Pfeffer of Delevan; also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Robert, Frank, Donald and Paul Gilbert, Beatrice Becht, Edith Foss, Carol Weidinger and Betty Meyers.
There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in Arcade Rural Cemetery.
