Gizela D. Kosmerl of Arcade, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at her residence at the age of 97.

She was born June 30, 1923 in Chipmunk, NY. She was the daughter of the late John and Emilia (Pushnar) Yansick. She was a longtime member at St. Mary's Church in Arcade. She enjoyed knitting, stained glass, traveling, baking, and playing cards. She was also a member of the Freedom Grange and the Red Hat Society.

She worked at Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville as a OB registered nurse.

Her husband, Otto Kosmerl, who she married May 1, 1950 in Arcade, passed away on May 1, 1998.

She is survived by her children: Karen Griffin of Deerfield, IL, Mary Jane (Daryl Decker) Forsyth of Delevan, John (Sharon) Kosmerl of Arcade, and Patricia (James) Whitacre of Freedom; her brother, John (late Shirley) Yansick of Arcade; five grandchildren, Elizabeth (John Beltrami) Whitacre of Buffalo, Stephanie (Tim) Hogan of East Aurora, Colin (Samantha Barnetson) Kosmerl of Freedom, Katherine (Bill Krueger) Kosmerl of Estes Park, CO, Carter Griffin of Ames, IA; two great grandchildren, Norah and Quinn; two step-grandchildren, Tony (Chris) Forsyth of Belgium, Babbette (Luc Luyckx) Forsyth of Belgium along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, James Forsyth, her sisters Kristina (late Joe) Turk and Emilia (late Thomas) Novosel.

Friends may call Sunday October 25, 2020 from 2-5 PM at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St. Arcade. A Memorial Mass will take place Monday October 26, 2020 at 10am at St Mary's Church, 417 W. Main St., Arcade with Rev. Joseph Gullo officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arcade Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 303, Arcade, NY 14009 or to the Wyoming County Office for the Aging, 8 Perry Ave, Warsaw, NY 14569.

Maryjane and family, my heart goes out to you. Mrs. Kosmerl lived a long and beautiful life. I will never forget her baking cookies for Kally when she was in the hospital. She was always thinking of others.
