Obituary

Ruth A. Boyd of Arcade, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw at the age of 104.

She was born on August 24, 1916 in Rochester a daughter to the late Peter and Nora Mae (Robbins) Merk. She was a member of the Arcade Church of God and was a quality inspector for Motorola in Arcade.

Her first husband, Rev. Alexander Richardson whom she married on September 1, 1932 in Rochester passed away in 1983. Her second husband, Eldon Boyd whom she married on May 4, 1985 in Arcade passed away in 2015.

She was the mother of: Donald (Joyce) Richardson of Hilton, Ruthie (Woody) Hilfiker of Ontario, NY, Hope (Ronald) Atwater of Arcade, the late Noreen (survived by James) Spencer of Rochester, Paul Boyd of St. Cloud, FL, David (Jane) Boyd of Mayville, NY; also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her daughter, Noreen; her siblings: Dorothy Young, Florence Hardy, and Miriam Hey; 2 granddaughters, Gail Richardson and Debbie Spencer; and grandson, Tim Richardson.

Ruth Merk Richardson Boyd turned 104 in August. She was an amazing woman who always liked to look nice and enjoyed having her hair and nails done. She loved to read, do word search puzzles, and spend time with family. She enjoyed playing countless games of Rummikub and Skipbo, especially when she was winning!

We like to reflect on our Mom’s hands. They turned the pages of her Bible, devotionals, and many books, too numerous to count. Most every evening she wrote the events of the day in a journal. Those journals have become a great source of information for dates we might be looking for or what the weather was like on a certain day.

Mom’s hands carefully selected and sent countless greeting cards for all occasions to her family and friends across the United States, Canada, and Europe. She never missed a chance to let them know she was thinking of them. She thought she'd stop sending birthday and Christmas cards 2 years ago but changed her mind when Christmas came around and the birthdays started the 1st of the year. Even as she tired quickly the past few months, she still managed to send 125 Christmas cards this year!

As a pastor’s wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and a friend to all, her life has been full of God’s blessings. Even in life’s difficult times of losing a loved one, she lifted her hands in praise each time, never asking why, just continuing on with God’s grace. Mom knew how to pray and how to trust the Lord for the answers, no matter what the outcome.

We thank the Lord for our Mom, and for the beautiful hands that have loved and nurtured us and helped shape our lives into who we are today.
Hebrews 13:7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.
